Monsters and doodles collide in this entertaining story.
UK author Liz Pichon has made a big name for herself in the publishing world with her award-winning series about the creative school student Tom Gates.
Tom always enjoys drawing doodles of imaginary monsters, but now it seems that there may be a real one on the loose at Oakfield School!
An unknown creature has been making howling noises during class time, has made a big mess of the school supply closet, and seems to have an appetite for school lunches (especially sausage rolls)!
Not only that, but the strict substitute teacher, Miss Gravel, is in charge of Tom's class for the week while Mr Fullerman is away at a teachers' meeting!
Can Tom solve the monster mystery AND survive a week with Miss Gravel?
If your kids are fans of books like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, then they'll enjoy this. There are 15 books in this series, and this is the latest.
Kids will enjoy reading about all the funny characters in Tom's world, from his grumpy older sister Delia (who almost never smiles and who always wears a pair of dark sunglasses), to the most annoying boy in Tom's class, Marcus Mildrew (who always thinks he's right, even though he normally isn't).
Also, even though the book's 236 pages long, most of it is filled up with both normal illustrations and Tom's creative doodles (with some even taking up two whole pages).
Overall, this is an entertaining story about a funny, relatable kid, packed with heaps of illustrations, and perfect for fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
