Deep in the reaches of space, humanity's last hope hides a dark secret...
Note: This book is recommended for readers aged 16 and over.
Reasons: Strong language and mature themes.
Living inside a terraformed asteroid and with their lives controlled by the Elders, teenagers Porl and Gwen, along with the rest of their Brood, know very little about the outside world. But when one of their own is killed during an outside repair job, Porl soon realises that everything he has been taught is a lie...and that everyone's lives are in danger.
If you're into books like The Hunger Games or Divergent, you'll enjoy this story.
If you're a si-fi fan, you'll enjoy this book as well, as it's set during a thousand-year space mission to find and colonise a new Earth after humanity wrecked the old Earth.
Even if you're not into that sort of stuff (like me), there is still plenty to enjoy in this story, with lots of unexpected twists leading to a very dark secret.
There's also a bit of romance as well, as Porl secretly has feelings for his fellow Brood member Gwen, even though this is forbidden among Brood members.
Overall this is a futuristic but relatable dystopian novel, with a touch of romance thrown in, perfect for fans of this genre.
