A fun and exciting mystery story for kids.
When 12 year old Buttons McGinty is shipped off to R.I.E.F.G.L.U.M School, he soon discovers that things are not what they seem after strange things start happening. Just what exactly is the mysterious Dynamo Industries? And do they hold the key to finding Buttons' missing parents?
If your kids are into books with heaps of mysteries, then they'll enjoy this one.
The author, Rhys Darby, is best known by adults for being one half of the NZ singing duo Flight of the Conchords, but this is the first book that he wrote for children.
Told entirely in journal entries by Buttons, there is plenty of Rhys's signature humour in the book for kids to enjoy, like when Buttons thinks his parents are "missing, presumed missing."
Buttons is also fluent in Morse code as well, and there are heaps of messages written in Morse code for kids to decode using the included key.
Overall this is an entertaining mystery story from a well-known Kwi, and the start in a promising series.
