Liam Scott is back, and isn't the new guy anymore...

Note: This book is recommended for readers aged 16 and over.

Reasons: Violence, strong language, describes graphic and realistic war scenes.

After his first successful tour of duty in Afghanistan, Liam Scott is now working with 4 Rifles, an army patrol tasked with helping the Afghan National Army. But after being ambushed on arrival, and facing seemingly planned-out attacks by the Taliban, it seems increasingly likely to Liam that there may be a tratior in their ranks...

Just like in Andy McNab's first Liam Scott story (The New Recruit), there are lots of real-world locations and terms throughout the story, such as Camp Bastion, a military camp in Afghanistan where British soldiers prepare to be sent on tour, or the IED, which stands for Improvised Explosive Device.

Since this is a war story, there is also plenty of action as well, as Liam and the members of his new patrol fight to survive in the dangerous Afghanistan battleground.

It isn't all serious though, as there is plenty of dry squaddie humour too, such as one of the corporals being given the nickname 'X-Factor' by the patrol since he has the surname Cowell.

If you've already read about Liam Scott's first tour in The New Recruit, you'll enjoy this one, the second in the trilogy.

Overall, this is an action-packed and realistic war story, with a bit of dry humour thrown in too, and a great choice if you're a fan of Andy McNab's novels.
