Great for kicks, fun for kids (even grown-up ones)
Set to the tune of the children's song 'This Old Man', Peter MIllett and Jenny Cooper's latest sing-along story takes to the rugby field, with Dad as the star player!
I think that this book is going to be a big hit with kids, especially for those that are starting to become interested in rugby.
Peter Millet's filled this story with heaps of on-field action, with scrums, tries, conversions, hard tackles, and even a red card for one of the players, on every page.
Jenny Cooper's illustrations go great with this story too, from the rugby scrum at the start of the book (featuring funny details like a flying rugby boot and a player with a visible builder's crack), to the unlucky player being stretchered off the field by two medics.
Adults may also notice that the game looks a lot like an All Blacks vs Australia match, as most of the dads in the book look similar to retired players.
The book also includes a CD with the song sung by children's entertainer Jay Laga'aia, complete with cheering crowd and sideline support sound effects. I imagine that this CD is going to be very popular with both kids and parents, especially since they can sing along with the karaoke track.
Overall, this is an entertaining children's story with a catchy song, and a must for rugby fans young and old.
