A monster-sized adventure from a talented UK author
When cheeky Larker is expelled from her old school, her teacher sends her to The Cruel School, a sinister reform school on an active volcano. When she arrives however, Larker soon discovers that this new school is full of mysteries, the biggest one being why the students are disappearing, and if the sinister Doctor Doktor is behind it!
There are a lot of crazy teachers at the Cruel School you'll enjoy meeting, such as Digits, an eleven-fingered math teacher who always answers his own questions wrong, and MIss Gibber, who teaches a made-up language called Gabber to her class.
Of course, some of the biggest laughs in the story come from Larker, who's always ready with a quick joke or one-liner, and inspires others with her mantra of "Nothing is impossible!"
There are also plenty of fun illustrations from Tony Ross as well, especially with all the inventions and creatures Doctor Doktor has in her secret lab.
If you've already read Fing and Slime, or any of David's other books, you'll enjoy this one.
Overall, this is a fun and suspense-filled mystery, with lots of larger-than-life characters and goofy humour, and a must if you're a fan of David's stories.
