Lion is keeping watch over the cake, but will it survive the night?

One night, a stone lion at a gate comes to life and makes his way into the family house. A birthday cake has been left in the kitchen overnight, and Lion has taken it upon himself to protect it, a task he takes very seriously. But even though Lion is so good at his job, why is the cake getting smaller and smaller as the night goes on?

Told in a fun rhyming style, this is a recent award-winning book about a big-hearted character, with a fun surprise at the end...

Kids will enjoy the ways that Lion defends the cake from its would-be intruders, such as when he sends the family cat running with a sharp-clawed paw.

Ruth has done a great job with the night-time illustrations as well, especially with the long casting shadows that Lion and the other creatures cast.

If you have a child who's a fan of big animals (or just has a sweet tooth), they'll enjoy this story from the popular New Zealand author.

Overall, this is a fun midnight tale about a noble Lion with a very special job to do, and a must for kids who enjoy magical stories such as this.
