He's the world's worst kid, but your kids will love him anyway. It's Horrid Henry!

Meet Horrid Henry. horrid by name and horrid by nature. He lives with his mother, his father, and his younger brother, Perfect Peter.

In this collection of stories, Henry tries to trick the Tooth Fairy into giving him money for sweets, despite the fact that Henry is the only kid in his class who hasn't lost a tooth, wreaks havoc at his cousin Prissy Polly's wedding when he is forced to be a pageboy, plots revenge when his arch enemy Moody Margaret comes to stay, and tries to get rid of his strict new teacher, Mr Nerdon.

I think that this series would be an excellent choice if your children are too old for picture books, but are not yet ready for full chapter books.

There are lots of books in this series, but they don't have to be read in any specific order, and all of them contain four stories about Horrid Henry and his various misadventures. I also think that young children, especially boys, will enjoy reading about Henry and his 'wonderful, spectacular ideas', which usually end up backfiring on him.

Most of the character names are also easy for kids to remember (Horrid Henry, Moody Margaret, Rude Ralph, etc), and there are heaps of drawings by illustrator Tony Ross, which children will enjoy looking at as well (even the ones of Henry attacking Peter).

Just a warning to parents though, Henry's bad behaviour could rub off on your kids if you're not careful!

Overall, this is an entertaining collection of stories about a horrible (yet loveable) child, perfect for both confident and reluctant readers.
