Myrtle Meek has everything. Except for one thing. A Fing.
In his twelth novel aimed at a slightly younger audience, David tells the story of Mr and Mrs Meek, two perfectly polite parents with the world's worst daughter, Myrtle Meek. Whatever Myrtle wants, she gets otherwise she screams the house down.
As a result, Myrtle has everything she could possibly want, but that still isn't enough for her. On the morning of her tenth birthday, Myrtle suddenly decides she wants something new: a Fing.
There's just one big problem. Mr and Mrs Meek have no idea what a Fing is!
The quest to find one takes Mr Meek from the darkest depths of the library's ancient vaults to the deepest, darkest, jungliest jungle. But will he be able to capture a Fing and bring it back for Myrtle? And if so, what will Myrtle's reaction be?
If your kids have read any of David's other books, then they'll certainly enjoy reading about Mr Meeks hilarious quest to find the elusive Fing for his daughter.
Just like with David's previous books, there is plenty of silly humour, including a whole jungle full of made-up animals like the honkopotamus (which has no legs and uses its powerful farts to propel itself) and the helephant (a species of elephant that can use its trunk as a propeller to fly through the air).
Also, as with all of David's other novels, there is a serious message at the heart of this one, this time about the consequences of being too greedy.
Overall, this is another exciting and hilarious novel, with a serious message at its core, perfect for fans of David's previous work.
