A thrilling adventure set in the heart of Africa
When Jack Courtney and his family go to Africa for an environmental conference, a holiday full of adventure is promised. But when Jack's parents get kidnapped for ransom and the police can't help, Jack and his friends Amelia and Xander must race against time and brave the dangerous African jungle to rescue them.
If you're into authors like Des Hunt or Chris Ryan, you'll enjoy this story. This is the first novel that Wilbur has written for this age group, and he plans to write more.
Most of Wilbur's novels are set under Africa's blazing sun, and this one is no exception, from the bustling chaotic villages to the harsh and unforgiving wilderness. Wilbur has also written about the Courtney family in 19 of his novels for adults, and in this one, he introduces young readers to this iconic dynasty.
Kids will enjoy reading about Jack's exciting adventures, as he and his friends race to solve the mystery of Jack's kidnapped parents before time runs out. Having never visited Africa myself, I particularly enjoyed Wilbur's descriptions of the different animals and locations in this country, which really helped bring the story to life.
Wilbur Smith is also one of my Dad's favourite authors, and having read this novel by him, it has encouraged me to check out some of his other books, and may encourage you to do the same as well.
Overall this is an exciting adventure story from a very talented author, and I hope is the start of a promising series.
