Nate's back, and in deeper trouble than ever.
Eleven year-old Nate Wright enjoys drawing comic strips to make his friends laugh, especially when he's poking fun at people he doesn't like much (like his social studies teacher Mrs Godfrey, aka "Mrs Godzilla").
When he lands a job as the gossip columnist for P.S. 38's newspaper, The Weekly Bugle, he can't wait to share his talent with the rest of the school.
But when he makes fun of the school bully, Randy Betancourt, in his first issue, Nate finds himself in big trouble with Principal Nichols.
Not only that, but the school also knows about his secret crush on the new girl, Ruby, thanks to the school drama-queen Dee Dee.
Can Nate fix both these problems, AND help his team win the annual Mud Bowl against Jefferson Middle School?
If your kids have read any of the other books in the Big Nate series, then they'll enjoy this one. There are eight chapter books in this series, and this is the eighth.
Just like with the other books in this series, this one is full of Nate's trademark sarcastic humour, as well as his various drawings and comic strips (this time featuring characters like Ultra-Nate, Nate's fictional superhero alter-ego, and the absent-minded surgeon, Doctor Cesspool).
Also, as well as the main story, there are also lots of messages written in code throughout the book in Nate's comic strips, which kids will enjoy trying to decode using the included key.
Overall, this is another funny story about Nate and his misadventures, perfect for fans of this series.
